Vespers is the sunset evening prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours – the official daily prayer of the Catholic Church that sanctifies every hour of the day. It is one of the two “hinge” hours (with Lauds) that even busy lay people are strongly encouraged to pray (CCC 1174–1178).
